A whistleblower who claimed to have been attacked in New Jersey after leaking an alleged voice recording of the late actress Kim Sae Ron has been found to have fabricated the entire story.
On May 19th, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in New York confirmed that no Korean nationals have been arrested or detained in connection with any attempted murder cases within its jurisdiction. “Under Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, local authorities are obligated to notify the consulate immediately if a Korean national is arrested or detained,” the consulate stated. “We have received no such notification to date.” This indicates that the case was never even filed with local investigative authorities.
Regarding the claim that the FBI was looking into the alleged attack on the whistleblower, the FBI said, “We don’t have or handle this information,” confirming they’re not involved in the case.
This statement directly refutes the whistleblower’s claims that he was stabbed multiple times in the neck by two attackers—one Korean and one Chinese—and that the FBI was investigating the incident.
On May 7th, Kim Se Ui, head of the controversial YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute (also known as HoverLab Inc.), gave a press conference in Seoul, where he revealed the alleged attack. He introduced the whistleblower as the person who had provided an audio recording supposedly featuring Kim Sae Ron and accused Kim Soo Hyun of orchestrating the attack. Kim also claimed that the FBI had obtained phone records related to the case.
However, inconsistencies quickly emerged. In a video released the same day, the whistleblower changed his account, stating he had injured his arm, not his neck. A medical report he presented listed a deep cut to his right shoulder and left hand, with no mention of neck wounds.
Separately, journalist-turned-YouTuber Lee Jin Ho gave his own press conference, presenting a forensic report concluding that the audio file released by Kim Se Ui was AI-generated. Lee further claimed that the whistleblower had attempted to extort a large sum of money from Kim Soo Hyun’s side using the fabricated audio, but the actor’s team immediately dismissed the offer upon reviewing the file.
