A press conference for upcoming film Hi.5 took place at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University on the morning of May 12th. Director Kang Hyoung Chul, along with cast members Lee Jae In, Ahn Jae HongRa Mi RanKim Hee WonYoo Ah InOh Jung Se and Park Jin Young, attended the event to talk about the film.

Director Kang, who wrote and directed the movie, shared what led him to create it: “I had the opportunity to work on several films, and this time, I just wanted to make something fun. When I was a kid, there were so many fun titles at the video store. I wanted to create that kind of light, entertaining film people could enjoy without worry.”

He continued, “I believe the viewers should have fun even if it’s a tough journey for the creators. Thanks to the cast, I found a lot of healing and comfort along the way.”

Kang called Hi.5 an “action-comedy adventure.” He elaborated, “While it’s a comedy based on the unrealistic idea of superpowers, I tried to ground it with more relatable characters and settings—like a local taekwondo studio or the neighborhood yogurt lady. The humor comes from those everyday people.”

When asked about Yoo Ah In’s appearance in the film, following the actor’s involvement in a drug scandal, Kang responded candidly. “It’s an unfortunate situation,” he stated. “It would’ve been better if it hadn’t happened. At the time, the film was still in post-production. I once read that when a crisis hits, a good leader focuses on solving the problem first. As a director, I focused on finishing the film. We made minimal edits and stayed on course.”

Hi.5 opens in theaters on Friday, May 30th.
