Go Youn Jung opened up about her early career journey and a surprising audition story during her appearance on the April 30 episode of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block.
Go Youn Jung, who originally majored in art, shared how she eventually changed paths to pursue acting. “I started studying art in my first year of middle school,” she said. “But after deciding to switch to acting, I worked part-time jobs to pay for acting lessons.” She also revealed her dedication to the craft, saying she used to watch up to five movies a day while studying acting.
Explaining what drew her to the world of film, Go Youn Jung said, “Art is something you do alone. Even if I didn’t become an actress, I wanted to be a part of filmmaking in some way—whether it was the art team, lighting or props. I wanted to contribute to the process.”
She also commented on a past viral photo of herself, modestly saying, “I looked prettier than in real life. It felt surreal.”
One of the most intriguing moments came when Go Youn Jung revealed she had auditioned for a role in the Academy Award-winning film Parasite. She auditioned for the role of Yeon Kyo’s (played Cho Yeo Jeong) daughter, ultimately played by actress Jung Ji So. “I don’t remember it clearly—it feels like a dream,” She said. “It was like seeing celebrities up close. Director Bong Joon Ho told me I resembled Cho Yeo Jeong, and I heard I was one of the candidates because of that.”
Go Youn Jung also discussed her experience starring in the hit drama Moving. “Before Moving, people used to just say, ‘I’m your fan.’ But now, more people say, ‘I really enjoyed your work,’ and that feels different,” she noted.
Reflecting on her current mindset, she added, “I’m really enjoying this moment. I used to think ignorance was bliss, but now that I’ve learned more on set, I realize it’s fun to understand things. I feel more excited than worried about my next project.”
