The stars of Newtopia gathered at Conrad Hotel Seoul on Tuesday to preview their upcoming “zom-com” (zombie rom-com), with leads Park Jung Min and Jisoo joined by director Yoon Sung Hyun.
The Coupang Play series follows the story of soldier Jae Yoon and his determined girlfriend Young Joo as they race across zombie-infested Seoul to reach each other.
Jisoo described her character, saying, “Young Joo is a fresh graduate waiting for her boyfriend Jae Yoon, who enlisted late in age. Struggling to survive her first step into the society, their relationship grows distant. When disaster strikes, she realizes her love for him and becomes this amazing woman who bravely runs toward him.”
On choosing the project, Jisoo shared, “I’ve watched many zombie shows. When I read the script, I saw it wasn’t just about zombies but had many colorful incidents, creating a zombie drama unlike anything I’d seen before. And having director Yoon Sung Hyun and actor Park Jung Min on board made it an easy decision.”

The chemistry between the leads extended beyond the screen. Park Jung Min, a self-proclaimed BLACKPINK fan, revealed he’s keeping their photos together and signed CDs as treasures. “I have a special cabinet at home for precious items. Right at the front, I have two signed CDs—one is the one I got through Kim Go Eun that says ‘Thank you for your support, Park Jung Min,’ and another that says ‘Look forward to working with you, Jung Min.’ Looking at these reminds me how far I’ve come and motivates me to work harder. I never imagined I’d be sharing a stage with Jisoo like this, speaking informally.”
The duo supported each other throughout filming, with Park going above and beyond by showing up on set even during phone call scenes. “I was really surprised,” Jisoo recalled. “During my phone scene with Jung Min, I heard his voice nearby. He came in person on his day off—it was a total surprise.” However, they don’t share that many scenes together. Park joked, “Of course it’s disappointing. Help us out here. If ‘Newtopia 2′ happens, we could do it properly, right?”
Addressing expectations given BLACKPINK members’ solo success, Jisoo reflected, “When my members do well, people congratulate me like it’s my own achievement. It made me realize we’re like family, which motivated me during filming. I hope my members will hear good things about ‘Newtopia’ too.”
Meanwhile, Newtopia premieres on Coupang Play on February 7 at 8 PM KST.
