Lee Hee Jun has drawn a striking parallel between his Bogota: City of the Lost co-star Song Joong Ki and Hollywood icon Tom Cruise.
During an interview with News1 on December 23rd, Lee praised Song’s comprehensive involvement in the film’s production. “He takes care of everything on set like a producer,” Lee shared. “If he spots nervous non-Korean background actors, he’ll go comfort them and say things like, ‘It’d be better if you relax a bit.’ He pays attention to every little detail like that.”
Lee elaborated, “It might seem like he’s overstepping, but in my view, he’s very much like Tom Cruise. He’s someone who strives to take responsibility for the entire film and ensure its completion. I could never do that myself—I’m too busy just managing my own things.”
To illustrate his point, Lee recalled a particular incident during the filming of a pool scene. “I suddenly came down with a fever and was breaking out in cold sweats,” he revealed. “To create a fun atmosphere [for filming], you need to greet people and ask their names, which was originally my role. But Joong Ki took care of everything—getting friendly with everyone, explaining how each cut should be more fun.”
Bogota follows the story of Guk Hee (Song Joong Ki), who travels to Bogota, Colombia, seeking new opportunities in the aftermath of the IMF crisis. The narrative interweaves with characters played by Lee Hee Jun as Soo Young and Kwon Hae Hyo as Park Byung Jang, prominent figures in Bogota’s Korean community. The film will hit Korean theaters on December 31st.
