Eric from The Boyz had fans laughing when he mistakenly mistook a condom for a Pepero stick, prompting the product’s manufacturer to issue an official apology.
On Monday, Barunsengkak, the company behind the product, posted a statement on their official account, apologizing for the mix-up. “We sincerely apologize for any confusion caused. We may have created a condom set that’s a little too cute,” the company wrote.
Earlier, Eric shared a photo of what he thought was a Pepero stick along with a handwritten letter to celebrate Pepero Day—a popular holiday in South Korea, similar to Valentine’s Day, where people exchange Pepero (a chocolate-covered biscuit snack). However, it was later revealed that the item he purchased was not actually Pepero but a condom packaged to look like a Pepero stick, leading to the hilarious mishap.
In response, Eric quickly deleted the post and shared his embarrassment, saying, “I’m so mortified right now, I just want to hide for a week. I picked it up from the Pepero display at the convenience store near my dorm, and I had no idea what it really was.”
Addressing the situation, Barunsengkak issued a statement, saying, “We sincerely apologize. This is entirely our fault.” The company further explained, “Our intention in using the Barunsengkak brand was to help reduce the stigma around purchasing or possessing contraceptive products.”
In a lighthearted tone, the company added, “If this can help educate the public that the condoms in this product are not adult items, but medical devices that are also available to minors, we’ll gladly accept the consequences of this controversy.”
Concluding their statement, Barunsengkak expressed hope that this incident would encourage people to approach contraceptive products with an open mind and promote awareness of healthy sexual practices. They reiterated their apology to anyone who found the situation confusing.
