When K-pop idols transition into acting, “acting controversy” often follows, and Son Na Eun was no exception. The former Apink member faced her share of criticism but has steadily improved. In an interview with Sports Seoul, Son Na Eun shared her reaction to the positive feedback. “After a project, I always check out the responses, and a lot of people said they could relate to Mi Rae. As an actor, that makes me really happy and grateful. It brought me to tears,” she revealed. “Comments like, ‘It’s different from her usual roles but suits her so well,’ and ‘She really feels like Mi Rae’ were such heartwarming compliments. I’m grateful for any reaction because it means people are interested. Whether it’s praise or criticism, I take it all with an open mind to improve where I can.”
The criticism she mentioned stems from her role in the 2022 JTBC drama Agency, where her appearance was often the focus. Reflecting on that time, Son Na Eun said, “It was a great project, but I was upset that I overshadowed the hard work of so many people. Still, it became a turning point for me—an opportunity to reflect on my acting and grow.”
Looking ahead, Son Na Eun is eager to take on new challenges. “I’d love to try a romantic comedy or even action. If I get the chance, I could even play a middle schooler,” she laughed.
With over a decade of experience in the industry, Son Na Eun feels both grateful and excited for what’s to come. “I’ve received so much love the past ten years. I know it’s such a fortunate thing to receive support while doing what I enjoy, and I’m always thankful for that. I still have so much to explore as an actress, so in many ways, I feel like my journey is just beginning. I want to keep working hard and become an actress who’s loved for many years.”
