ATEEZ’s San has addressed the controversy surrounding allegations of racism at the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda show in Milan, Italy, on July 2nd.

San attended the prestigious fashion event, but fans quickly raised concerns about possible discriminatory treatment. They noted that while other attendees had cushioned seats, San didn’t get one, and he appeared to be awkwardly seated between other guests.

Another issue raised was San’s outfit. He wore a top inspired by Baroque sculptures, wide flare pants, and patent derby shoes. However, some fans argued that offering genderless looks exclusively to Asians is a form of racial discrimination.

This incident gained more attention as it followed recent experiences of other Korean celebrities facing racism in Europe. In May, Yoona was stopped by a female security guard while trying to greet fans at the Cannes Film Festival, where she was an ambassador for a jewelry brand. Han Ye Seul also shared her experience of being denied a pre-booked premium terrace seat at a hotel during her honeymoon in Italy, allegedly due to racial discrimination.

Amidst growing controversy, San took to a live streaming to clarify the situation. He explained, “Out of the ten outfits prepared by the brand, this was my favorite. It was a chance to showcase various looks, and considering the show’s haute couture identity, I wanted to take on the challenge. I thought it was a stunning, modern piece of art, and I was grateful they gave me last year’s main outfit. I wanted to be recognized in the fashion world by taking on a bold outfit that contrasted with the Alta Sartoria style.”

San also addressed the seating issue, saying, “I had dinner with Grandpa Dolce (Domenico Dolce), and he told me wonderful things, like ‘Italians love you.’ As for the cushion, I chose to sit that way. I’m saddened by the misunderstanding.”
