The Lovely Runner star Kim Hye Yoon opened up about her real-life dating preferences between her co-stars Song Geon Hee and Byeon Woo Seok.
Lovely Runner is a romantic comedy-drama about Lim Sol (Kim Hye Yoon), a devoted fan who travels back to 2008 to save her beloved artist Ryu Sun Jae (Byeon Woo Seok), who had lost his will to live. Despite modest ratings around 5%, the show garnered significant buzz and became a favorite among female viewers in their 20s and 30s.
The drama featured two contrasting first love styles that captivated fans: Sol’s first love, Tae Sung (Song Geon Hee), and Sun Jae. When asked who she would choose in real life, Kim Hye Yoon had a thoughtful response.
“Honestly, it’s a tough choice,” she said with a laugh. “Tae Sung is a bit more of a tsundere character, while Sun Jae is straightforward and first love. If I were my teenage self, I’d probably be drawn to Tae Sung because he’s the popular guy, a model, and would have been quite popular in school. But as an adult, I’d mix in some of Sun Jae’s qualities. I’ll go with Tae Sung for dating and Sun Jae for marriage.”
Reflecting on her first love, Kim Hye Yoon shared, “I really liked someone back then.” But then she playfully stressed that it was “back then,” giving a big laugh. The actress went on, “As every first love is, It was bittersweet but also beautiful. I love how I was so in love at the time. Looking back, I’m amazed at how much I was willing to give for that love. I find that part of myself endearing.”
She added that her current approach to relationships is more cautious. “I’m a bit more protective now. Back then, I gave my all without thinking of the consequences. Now, I’m more mindful of potential hurt and try to guard my heart a bit more.”
