Director Ryu Seung Wan’s latest crime action film, I, The Executioner (also known as Veteran 2), is set to be screened in the Midnight Screening section of the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Starring Hwang Jung Min, Jung Hae In, and Kim Mu Yeol, the film will have its world premiere on May 20th at 12:30 AM (local time) at the Grand Auditorium Louis Lumière. It is the only Korean film invited to the main section of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Ahead of the official screening, Ryu Seung Wan, Hwang Jung Min, Jung Hae In, and Next Entertainment’s CEO Kang Hye Jung and Vice President Cho Seong Min walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Hwang Jung Min greeted fans with a smile, while Jung Hae In signed autographs for fans before the screening and while waiting for the team’s entry on the red carpet.
Director Ryu Seung Wan was invited to the Cannes Film Festival for the first time in about 19 years since his 2005 film, Crying Fist, screened in the Directors’ Fortnight section. This year marks Hwang Jung Min’s fourth visit to the Cannes Film Festival, following his visits for the 2005 film A Bittersweet Life, the 2016 film The Wailing in the Out of Competition screenings, and the 2018 film The Spy Gone North in the Midnight Screening section. This is his second time walking the red carpet, after The Spy Gone North. For Jung Hae In, it’s his first time walking the Cannes red carpet.
I, The Executioner is an action-crime thriller that follows two police investigators who uncover the links between the murders of five women and the suicide of a 16-year-old boy. It is the sequel to the 2015 mega-hit movie Veteran, which drew 13.41 million viewers nine years ago.
