Ahead of the highly anticipated release of The Roundup: Punishment, Ma Dong Seok has shared insights into his upcoming nuptials with Ye Jung Hwa, planned for May, three years after their official marriage registration.
The Roundup: Punishment is the fourth installment of South Korea’s premier crime action franchise. The film, starring Ma Dong Seok as the monster detective Ma Seok Do, Kim Mu Yul as the villain Baek Chang Ki, and Lee Dong Hwi as the IT genius CEO Jang Dong Chul, depicts an intense crackdown on a massive illegal online gambling operation. It has dominated pre-sales, securing a whopping 230,000 tickets and leading with a 69.9% reservation rate.
In The Roundup: Punishment, Ma Dong Seok returns as the formidable detective Ma Seok Do, battling villains with his life on the line. Since its inception in 2017, Ma has been a pivotal force behind The Roundup franchise, taking on roles from writing the script and production to playing the lead role. The series, already planned up to its eighth installment, is currently working on the script for the fifth film.
Regarding the upcoming wedding, a representative from Big Punch Entertainment shared, “Ma Dong Seok and Ye Jung Hwa are planning to have their wedding ceremony in May. The ceremony will be held privately.”
Ma Dong Seok commented on the timing of the wedding, “Park Ji Hwan (his co-star in the movie) is also belatedly registering his marriage and holding his wedding ceremony in April. Since the movie will be in theaters then, we’re hoping the actors can attend after the audience greetings. I’m also getting married around that time. Honestly, my wife used to say, ‘What matters is that we live well, not the ceremony.'” However, he revealed the reason for finally holding a wedding, “We decided to have a quiet, private ceremony for our parents.”
Looking ahead, Ma Dong Seok hinted at the franchise’s future direction: “If parts 1 to 4 were Part 1, starting from part 5, the format will become more modern and global. We’re working on the script for the fifth one right now. It looks like it won’t be released next year but will need a bit more time.”

Meanwhile, The Roundup: Punishment is set to hit theaters on the 24th of this month, promising another blockbuster chapter in this acclaimed action saga.
