The Roundup: Punishment, the fourth installment of South Korea’s premier crime action franchise, has firmly established itself as the most anticipated blockbuster of April following its preview on April 15th. The film, starring Ma Dong Seok as the monster detective Ma Seok Do, Kim Mu Yul as the villain Baek Chang Ki, and Lee Dong Hwi as the IT genius CEO Jang Dong Chul, depicts an intense crackdown on a massive illegal online gambling operation.

Since its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in February—a first for a Korean series film to be featured in the Berlinale Special Gala—The Roundup: Punishment has garnered glowing reviews from prestigious international outlets. Variety praised the film as “basically perfect, no notes,” while Deadline highlighted, “In a genre where constant bafflement over plot details is the norm, this series stands out as carefully crafted. And fun, obviously.”

General audiences have also voiced their approval, noting the film’s swift pacing and robust action sequences. Reviews from moviegoers include praises like “The action was powerful, the actors were great, and it’s the best in the franchise!” and “The sound is also impressive. I’m booking my next watch in a Dolby theater!”
