In a delightful surprise for fans, Song Joong Ki appeared in the tvN weekend drama Queen of Tears, taking on the role of Hong Hae In’s (Kim Ji Won) divorce attorney, Vincenzo. During the show’s 8th episode on March 31st, Baek Hyun Woo (Kim Soo Hyun) confesses his intentions to divorce Hae In, who subsequently informs Hyun Woo of her decision to proceed with the separation. It’s then that Vincenzo steps in as Hae In’s legal counsel.
Kim Yang Ki (Moon Tae Yoo) describes Vincenzo with a mix of awe and fear, saying, “That man is terrifying,” and references Song Joong Ki’s previous roles (Reborn Rich, Descendants of the Sun, Space Sweepers, Vincenzo): “Rumors say he’s the youngest son of a chaebol family, or a soldier deployed overseas, or even that he came here in a spaceship. But his name is Vincenzo. His real identity? A mafia consigliere, pretty much the boss.”
Vincenzo confronts Baek Hyun Woo, stating, “The crime of deceiving my client is too grave to be settled with just a piece of paper,” and adds, “I’m sorry, but I deal with evil by being evil.” He then clarifies, “I should mention, I’m not here to negotiate.”
Through the negotiation, Vincenzo settles their divorce as “growing apart due to busy schedules and decided to remain good friends, wishing each other well in the future.” When Hong Hae In interjects, “Wait, I’m not blessing anything,” Vincenzo quips, “It’s just something people say,” eliciting laughter from the audience.
Song Joong Ki’s cameo in Queen of Tears not only reunited him with director Kim Hee Won from the drama Vincenzo but also with his previous co-stars Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won, adding a layer of joy and nostalgia. Song Joong Ki expressed, “I came to lend strength to the production, but I think I’m having more fun shooting than anything else.”
