NCT’s Taeyong is preparing to trade the microphone for the military as he’s set to enlist in the Navy Band, making him the first member of NCT to embark on military service. According to Sway, Taeyong will undergo basic military training starting next month on the 10th before joining the Navy Band to fulfill his national defense duties.
However, SM Entertainment soon corrected the report, saying the date will be April 15th instead of the 10th. They continued that “there will be no public events on the day of Taeyong’s entrance into the recruit training center, and the entrance will be made privately to prevent safety accidents due to congestion at the site.”
This news comes after NCT’s eldest member, Taeil, postponed his enlistment due to a motorcycle accident last August that resulted in a fractured right thigh, necessitating surgery and a delayed military start.
In January, Taeyong underwent an interview to join the military band and was one of six candidates competing for a single vocal position. Despite suffering from a serious disc herniation, his determination to serve was evident. For the audition, candidates were allowed to choose one of three songs to perform as a free choice, and Taeyong opted to showcase his own composition, impressing the judges with his vocal prowess and securing his place in the final interview on the 23rd.
