The prosecution has demanded a two-year prison sentence for Shinhwa’s Shin Hye Sung during the appeal trial for his drunk driving charges.

The Seoul Eastern District Court held the first appeal hearing for Shin Hye Sung on March 15th. He was initially charged with drunk driving and refusing a breathalyzer test in April 2023.

During the first trial, prosecutors requested a 2-year prison sentence. However, the court issued a lighter sentence of 6 months in prison, suspended for 1 year. The prosecution appealed this decision, arguing it was too lenient.

At the appeal hearing, prosecutors maintained their request for a 2-year sentence. They cited Shin Hye Sung’s past DUI conviction and his refusal to cooperate with the breathalyzer test as reasons for a harsher sentence.

Shin Hye Sung was arrested in October 2022. He was found asleep at the wheel in the middle of the road after reportedly drinking with a friend. He was initially riding in a car driven by a designated driver but later took the wheel himself. Police investigation revealed he drove someone else’s car without permission, though they found no evidence of theft intent.

Back in April 2007, the singer was convicted of another DUI offense. He drove his car under the influence for roughly 400 meters from Apgujeong-dong to Samseong-dong.
