Kim Ji Won is embarking on a fresh challenge in the drama Queen of Tears. The show chronicles the story of Hong Hae In (Kim Ji Won), a third-generation chaebol from the Queens Group, and Baek Hyun Woo (Kim Soo Hyun), the son of the village chief of Yongduri, as they navigate through a precarious crisis in their three-year marriage and miraculously rekindle their love.
On why she chose the role, the actress shared, “I wanted to portray the life of Hong Hae In, who appears cold but is lovely, strong but fragile, and whose life isn’t just simple. I saw this as an opportunity for a new challenge with a different vibe from my previous works.” She added, “I would be thrilled to hear that I fit this role perfectly,” expressing her dedication to the project.
“Initially, Hong Hae In struck me as a character who had lived a life without shortcomings, cold and direct,” she shared. “Hae In is used to charging ahead without looking back, clumsy at mending wounds and restoring relationships. The depth of Hae In’s loneliness and wounds struck me, and on some level, I found it quite pitiful.” Kim Ji Won also highlighted the resilience of Hong Hae In, “I tried to show the emotional depth when Hae In’s steadfastness breaks.”
The dynamic between Hong Hae In and Baek Hyun Woo is another focal point. Describing their relationship as “magnetic,” Kim Ji Won explained, “Like the north and south poles, they might seem to repel each other, but they complete each other when together, finding direction and moving forward.”
Kim Ji Won also expressed gratitude toward her co-star Kim Soo Hyun, “Kim Soo Hyun creates a comfortable and cheerful atmosphere on set. Thanks to him, we could bring out our chemistry as a couple in our performances,” hinting at the synergy between them.
Meanwhile, Queen of Tears is set to premiere on the 9th at 9:10 PM.
