Will Hyeri be making a radical transformation in her new series?

In an exclusive scoop by Star News on the 6th, Hyeri has been confirmed to join the cast of the TVING original series Benevolent Competition (literal title). Based on a webtoon of the same name, this mystery psychological thriller GL (Girl Love) series begins after the sudden death of a father who was a college entrance exam committee member. The story follows Seul Gi, who transfers to a prestigious girls’ high school in Seoul and becomes friends with Je Yi, the top student and real power at the school. However, as they grow closer, the dark side of Ja Yi and the secret behind Seul Gi’s death gradually reveal themselves.

Hyeri’s agency Creative Group ING stated that she is “positively reviewing” her involvement.

In the drama, Hyeri portrays Yoo Je Yi, a character blessed with not just beauty but also a high IQ, talent, and charisma. Unlike Woo Seul Gi, who was bullied at school, Je Yi lives as everyone’s envy. The series promises to unreservedly depict the precarious journey of the two as they, despite their similar pains, suspect and compete against each other, only to find themselves increasingly drawn to one another.

Notably, Benevolent Competition is set to tackle mature themes, including substance abuse, self-harm, and masturbation, among others, making it likely to be rated for audiences over 18. The series aims to portray the tumultuous stories of teenagers lost in a sea of addictions. The screenplay is penned by writer Kim Tae Hee.

In the meantime, Hyeri is gearing up for the release of her movie Victory and is currently shooting for the film Tropical Night (literal title).
