Rain finds himself at the center of a legal whirlwind, accused of engaging in a real estate scam.
On the 25th, YouTuber Guje released a new video where he shared the plaintiff A’s case. According to the video, A claimed to have entered a property deal with Rain, involving a building in Hwaseong Namyang New Town, Gyeonggi Province, that A owns, and Rain’s residence in Seoul’s Itaewon. A allegedly purchased Rain’s Itaewon property last May for 85 billion KRW (approx. 72.3 million USD), while Rain reciprocally acquired A’s Namyang property and land for 235 billion KRW (approx. 200.2 million USD) under his father Jung’s name in July of the same year.
A asserts that he wasn’t able to see Rain’s property in person. The singer supposedly declined to show the property citing concerns over privacy. When A asked for photos and was turned down, then indicated the desire to cancel the contract, Rain allegedly sent photos of the house. However, upon completion of the contract, A claims that the photos turned out to be of an entirely different house.
Last month, A submitted a formal complaint against Rain to the Seoul Yongsan Police Station.
Rain’s agency hit back, dismissing A’s claims as “untrue.” Rain Company refuted, “The seller is merely nitpicking since Rain is a celebrity. Logically speaking, it’s nonsensical to buy a million-dollar property just by looking at pictures.”
They continued, “Even if one simply looked at the land registry or the building register during real estate transactions, the buyer’s claims do not hold water. You can check the exterior of the house from the outside. And a simple internet search shows the exterior. We have plenty of evidence to prove that the buyer’s claims are false. If he continues to press charges based on untrue claims, we’ll provide evidence through the appropriate legal channels.”
The agency stressed, “The facts of the matter are very clear. The buyer’s claims are far removed from common sense and reality. We will take strong legal action against this exploitative action made against Rain simply because he’s a celebrity.”
