Delta Air Lines is facing backlash in South Korea following Hyeri‘s revelation about her experience of her seat being downgraded from first-class to economy without a refund.

Hyeri, an actor and member of the K-pop group Girl’s Day, expressed her frustration in a statement on her Instagram Stories. She wrote, “I booked the flight a month ago and even selected my seats in advance. But now I was told that I have been downgraded to economy as there were no first-class seats available. The only option left for me was to either fly in economy at the first-class ticket price or to wait for the next flight. How can this happen? Both seats I booked have been downgraded. This was totally absurd. Watch out so that you don’t experience the same thing in the future.”

Hyeri’s post quickly spread through online communities, and the airline in question was revealed to be Delta Air Lines.

The airline clarified, “As is customary in these rare situations, our agents offer customers the option to wait for a later flight with first-class seating available or to take economy seating with a refund of the fare difference, which will be processed shortly after travel.” They mentioned that they are reaching out to affected customers regarding the refund procedures.

Delta Air Lines has faced criticism on multiple occasions for issues related to abuse of power and racial discrimination. The delay in their timely response to the recent seat downgrade is causing outrage among many people.
