Son Suk Ku appeared on tvN’s Yoo Quiz on the Block and looked back on his life before fame.

Recalling what he was like before becoming an actor, he shared, “When I was in middle school, I was accepted to the University of the Arts Institute of Chicago, which is one of the top seven art schools around the globe. I majored in documentary production there but failed to graduate. Then I volunteered to go to Afghanistan and spend six months as part of the Arbil Zaytun unit.” The actor commented, “I enjoyed my life there. I think it was the happiest moment of my life. I loved how people there recognized me for my hard work.”

“After getting discharged from the military, I went to Canada at 26 to become a basketball player. I was not ready to jump into Korean society back then,” he continued. “Of course, that didn’t go well. So I went to an acting academy. I was so bored and had nothing to do. I happened to do a play there, and it felt like I’ve finally found my calling.”

The actor also revealed that he had once worked as a door-to-door salesperson: “My family runs a company that my grandfather had established. My job was to sell products door to door, but I couldn’t sell a single product. But I think I learned a lot through the experience.”

Describing his life before the stardom, he said, “I failed in countless auditions. And I didn’t even go for auditions as I thought I wouldn’t make it anyways. Right when I thought of giving up, I got a role in Sense8 Season 2.”

“My goal is to be an actor with endless filmography. As things go out of trend quickly, I found that being an actor is no longer a lifelong job. So I would like to star in as many projects as I can down the road.”
