Park Ji Hoon is on a roll now, both as a K-pop star and an actor.
On the 23rd, Park Ji Hoon met with iMBC for an interview about his new hit Wavve series Weak Hero Class 1. Weak Hero Class 1 follows model student Yeon Si Eun (Park Ji Hoon) as he goes up against countless violence alongside the first friends he made, Ahn Su Ho (Choi Hyun Wook) and Oh Bum Seok (Hong Kyung). In the drama, Park Ji Hoon plays Yeon Si Eun, who fights against unfair violence inside and outside the school by using his intelligence as his weapon.
First, the actor opened up about his thirst for transformation. “There was a part of me that wanted to get recognized,” he shared. “It was a project that’d act as a turning point in my life. I kept my shoulder to the wheel, like Si Eun. It’s not like I didn’t do my best in my previous projects, but I discussed a ton with the director to complete Si Eun’s character. I wanted to make a boy who’s not all that heavy but is serious.”
“When the world sees me, they see the cute images I have,” he went on. “While researching for this series, I read a lot of comments, and a lot of them were about ‘I didn’t know Park Ji Hoon had such eyes.'” The actor then stressed, “I wanted to show them that I could pull off a character (like Yeon Si Eun).”
Park Ji Hoon introduces himself as an “idol and actor.” He elaborated, “Being an idol became the stairs for me. That’s why I wanted to get more recognition. It’s true that I want to be considered more as an actor than an idol. I think I’ve shown enough of myself as an idol.”
Some actors hide the fact that they used to be K-pop stars in fear of being branded “idol-turned-actor.” Park Ji Hoon responded, “I don’t think of it as being branded – but I wanted to hear people react that they see actor Park Ji Hoon.” He added, “Yet, my dream was always to be an actor. My ultimate goal was to become an actor.”
The actor showed his love for the craft of acting. “I think acting is something I find fun and difficult at the same time,” he said. “But the more I act, the more I learn, and that’s really fun. Getting to know my role is both refreshing and difficult.”
Meanwhile, Park Ji Hoon finished second in Mnet’s survival show Produce 101 Season 2 and promoted as a member of the project group Wanna One. Since then, he’s released solo albums, while solidifying his acting career, starring in various projects like Love Revolution and At A Distance Spring is Green.
