Neither So Ji Sub, Nam Joo Hyuk, nor Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson were able to revive the stagnant theater district.

The number of moviegoers continues to see a slump after the Chuseok holiday. Even Hollywood blockbusters and high-quality thrillers flopped at the box office, mostly because of the increased ticket price, audiences’ higher expectations, and the rise of OTT platforms.

The number of people who visited the theater on October 31st was 95,842. This figure is seriously low, even considering that it’s the off-season in theaters. It’s as if theaters had returned to 2020 when COVID-19 reached its peak.

The mere fact top stars are leading the movies is not enough to attract audiences. Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson, has only attracted 660K audiences, and the two new Korean movies – Confession, starring So Ji Sub and Kim Yunjin, and Remember, starring Lee Sung Min and Nam Joo Hyuk – barely managed to surpass the 300K mark on the 6th day of its release.

The highly-anticipated movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will hit the screen on the 9th, but even the Marvel movies can’t guarantee its success at this rate.
