‘Narco-Saints’ Becomes the 8th Most-Watched Show on Netflix + Things to Know About the True Story Behind the Series

The new Netflix original series Narco-Saints ranked eighth on TOP TV Shows on Netflix, according to flixpatrol.

Narco-Saints entered the TOP 10 in 33 countries as of the 11th, and in particular, it took the top spot in Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Vietnam. This 6-part series follows an ordinary entrepreneur who joins a secret government mission to capture a Korean drug lord operating in South America. It’s helmed by Nameless Gangster: Rules of Time and The Spy Gone North director Yoon Jong Bin.

Ha Jung Woo plays Kang In Gu, a resourceful civilian businessman who finds himself in a crisis because of the drug lord Jeon Yohan. Hwang Jung Min is none other than the drug lord Jeon Yohan, while Park Hae Soo takes on the role of NIS agent Choi Chang Ho. The rating for the series as of the 12th is 7.4.

One thing to note is that the series is based on true events about Jo Bong Haeng, who became the drug lord in Suriname after joining hands with the Colombian drug cartel (Cali Cartel).

Jo Bong Haeng lived in Suriname from the late 1990s to the early 2000s and ran a large-scale drug trafficking organization. In 2011, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a fine of 100 million KRW (about $72,300). After his release from prison, he is said to have returned to Suriname where he’s living in silence.
