Ma Dong Seok, aka Don Lee, was reportedly cast to lead the new OTT series based on a popular webtoon.

On the 11th, Starnews reported that Don Lee decided to appear as the main character in HIVE. If this is really happening, this will be Don Lee’s first OTT series.

Based on the popular webtoon of the same name by writer Kim Kyu Sam, HIVE depicts the apocalyptic world where a giant insect appeared and civilization was destroyed. Friend director Kwak Kyung Taek and The Divine Move 2: The Wrathful director Lee Khan will co-direct the project. With a budget of over 20 billion KRW (about $15.4 million), the first season will be produced as a 6-part series.

Previously, it was reported that Ascendio is producing HIVE and GIANTSTEP would participate in the video implementation of the show using real-time engines and special effects including VFX, making headlines.

With Don Lee joining the show, it’s expected to attract global attention. Having made his Hollywood debut in the movie Eternals last year, the actor starred in The Roundup, which became the first movie in 2022 to surpass 10 million admissions, confirming himself as the “never-failing actor” once again.
