BTS is going on an official hiatus to focus on solo projects after 9 years together.
Unlike other K-pop groups that actively engage in solo projects, BTS has been mainly focusing on group-oriented activities. However, the act has announced that they’re going on an indefinite hiatus to focus on their solo works. “We have to accept that we’ve changed,” RM said during an hour-long FESTA dinner video.
The first to start a solo career is J-Hope. The singer has been chosen as the headliner for the four-day music festival LOLLAPALOOZA. It’s the first time that a BTS member has confirmed his performance at a music festival. It is suspected that he’ll drop a new song before the event.
RM and Suga, who had shown exceptional songwriting and song-producing skills, are expected to focus on their music careers.
RM dropped his mixtape “mono” in 2018 and ranked 26th on Billboard 200. Then last year, he released “Bicycle” for free to commemorate the group’s 8th debut anniversary. On top of that, RM has shown a broad spectrum of music, producing or featuring in various artists’ projects of various genres.
Called the “Min PD” among ARMYs, Suga has attracted global attention by collaborating with many Korean and overseas artists. His credits include Halsey’s “SUGA’s Interlude,” MAX’s “Blueberry Eyes,” IU’s “eight,” PSY’s “That That,” and more. Additionally, Suga has released solo mixtapes under the name Agust D. “Daechwita,” the title song of his second mixtape “D-2” has ranked 76th on Billboard Hot 100.
In the meantime, BTS’ vocal members have sung OSTs instead of releasing solo mixtapes – Jin (Jirisan‘s OST “Yours”), V (Our Beloved Summer‘s “Christmas Tree”), and Jimin (Our Blues‘ “With You” with Ha Sung Woon). Jungkook sang “Stay Alive,” OST for BTS’ webtoon 7FATES: CHAKHO, and last year, he announced that he’d be releasing a mixtape.
The two members who we can expect to start or resume their acting careers are Jin and V. “I wanted to be an actor. After experiencing many things as an idol singer, I now think I don’t have any feelings left for the job. But we never know what will happen in our lives,” Jin said during dinner. However, since Jin is expected to start his military service this year, it’s most likely that he’ll release a song before his enlistment.
Meanwhile, V is the only BTS member who appeared in a drama. In 2016, he appeared in Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, and last month, the singer posted a picture that he took while playing the role Han Sung on his Instagram.
