Noh Sang Hyun, who gained global attention for his role as Baek Isak in Pachinko, got dressed up for the May issue of ELLE Korea.

In an interview after the photoshoot, he talked about watching Pachinko as a viewer now. “I’m really enjoying it. I’m noticing the refreshing directing and attractions that I had missed while monitoring. My eyes are drawn to the visual beauty, music, and the unique perspective of foreigners towards Korea,” he said.

Then what was his favorite scene in Pachinko? His answer was the ending scene of episode four. “The whole sequence that shows Solomon (Jin Ha) leaving the company, running in the rain and dancing like a mad man in front of the band was so awesome,” he explained. “And that was immediately followed by the scene where Youn Yuh Jung cries at the Busan beach. It was a perfect flow.”

To the question of how he landed the role of Baek Isak, the actor replied, “I don’t have much experience in acting. So they could have thought that there was nothing about me that they could trust. So I’m just grateful to the production team for believing in me.”

“How they lived during that short time they act – I think that’s the most important thing for actors,” he added. “That’s why I was so thrilled when Justin (Justin Chon) called me ‘an honest actor’ while shooting Pachinko. I think my sincerity to act with all my heart in every moment worked.”

Meanwhile, the first season of Pachinko will release its final episode on the 29th.
