The Red Sleeve director Jung Ji In revealed the behind-the-scenes story of the best scenes in the drama.

In the latest episode of MBC’s talk show Tamraneun TV, The Red Sleeve director Jung Ji In appeared as a guest to talk about various stories.

One of the scenes she mentioned was the scene where Junho (Yi San) checks Lee Se Young‘s (Deok Im) belongings in the final episode. “Before shooting that scene, Junho told me that he didn’t want to know what was in the box,” she recalled.

“So we took it to where actors can’t see and discussed in what order we’re going to put them in. In the end, we put her jeogori at the bottom and put a letter of apology, two books, then a yellow pouch on the top,” she continued. “This is a pouch that Deok Im thought about giving to Yi San when she found out about the pregnancy but couldn’t give until the end. But we didn’t tell that backstory to Junho.”

In the play, Yi San didn’t know what that pouch was until the end. “Yi San never knows what that pouch is. But Junho cried as he read the letter of apology. And he cried so hard when he was holding her jeogori,” the director relayed. “He told me later that he smelled the perfume Lee Se Young wears as he held up and smelled the jeogori. And that’s what made him cry even more. He grumbled that he cried more because of Deok Im’s smell.”
