Lee Jung Jae shared his thoughts on being nominated for the 28th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. He is the first Korean male actor to earn a nomination for the awards.

In an interview with JTBC’s Newsroom on January 13th, Lee Jung Jae said that he most wishes to win the outstanding ensemble award among all the other awards he’s been nominated for. He commented, “This is such an honor. The show’s performers and ensemble, as well as Jung Ho Yeon, were nominated. Our action crew also bagged a nomination, so basically, all of our actors were recognized. I am truly happy about all of this.”

The actor, who had a successful career in Korea prior to the international popularity of the Netflix show, has earned the title ‘rising star’ in the U.S. after the recent success of Squid Game. He said, “I hope this would be an opportunity for me to star in more global works. I feel like I’ve been given a great opportunity to turn a new page in my life.”

Lee Jung Jae also showed respect to his co-star Oh Yeong Soo, who recently won the Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes Awards. He said, “Oh Yeong Soo is a very nice person who gives great advice to his peer actors. The depth of his acting in Squid Game amazed me. I wish to become an actor like him, an actor who performs every line and movement with sincerity.”
