Jung Il Hoon appeared at the Seoul High Court for his marijuana case.
The former BTOB member was sentenced to two years in prison with three years of probation with a fine of $101,000 and an additional 40 hours of the drug treatment course.
The court announced its decision by stating, “Jung Il Hoon smoked and purchased cannabis for a long time. However, we took into account that he voluntarily stopped buying and smoking cannabis around January of 2019, that he had no criminal record, that he attempted to prevent a relapse by receiving psychiatric treatment and taking online drug addiction courses, and that his family expressed willingness to guide him due to his reasonably well-maintained social bonds.”
The singer was first brought to trial with seven other defendants on suspicion of purchasing and smoking 1.8lb of cannabis purchased for roughly $116,000 and used over 161 occasions between July 5th, 2016, and January 9th, 2019.
Jung was sentenced to two years in prison with a fine of nearly $119,000 in his first trial for breaching the Act on the Control of Narcotics, Etc., and was taken into custody. The sentence, however, was appealed by both Jung Ilhoon and the prosecution.
During his appeal hearing, prosecutors asked for a two-year prison sentence and a fine of around $107,000 for his marijuana convictions.
