Park Shin Hye and Choi Tae Joon will be tying the knot next January. And the couple also surprised their fans by announcing that they’re expecting a baby. While fans are congratulating them, many are wondering how they first met each other and how long they’ve been together.

The two started dating in 2017 and continued seeing each other during the two years when Choi was away serving his duties in the army.

Park and Shin both made their debut as actors early on. Park debuted in 2003 in Lee Seung Hwan’s “Flower” MV and started acting in earnest by playing young Choi Ji Woo in SBS’s Stairway to Heaven. Choi, on the other hand, started acting in 2001 with the SBS series, Piano, as young Jo In Sung. The two first met in the 2012 drama The King of Dramas.

It was when they were in college that they really got to know each other. They both enrolled at Chung-Ang University as theater majors, Park one year earlier than Choi. Plus, they are both devoted Christians. Although not much about their relationship is known to the public, the two have said to have built up their trust and love, even introducing each other to their family members. Choi was often spotted visiting the restaurant that Park’s parents run, keeping a good relationship with his girlfriend’s family. The place where the couple was first spotted together was also in that restaurant.

One thing to note is that both actors wanted to start their own families at an early age. Back in 2015, Park appeared in SBS’ variety show Flirty Boy and Girl and shared, “I thought I was going to marry when I turn 23. My dream was to get married.” Saying that she wanted to make a happy family like her parents, she added, “I thought about marrying someone around the age of 30. And once I set my goal, I started looking for a guy like my father.” Choi also expressed his desire to get married when he starred in MBC’s We Got Married. At the time, he said, “When I was young, I wanted to get married as soon as possible.”

When Choi was serving his duty as a social service agent in 2019, reports about their breakup came out. However, Park personally denied the rumors. Then, last year, the actress mentioned her boyfriend during interviews for her movie #ALIVE. To the question that asked her plans for marriage, she answered, “I’m not thinking about it. But I think of it as something I must do one day.”

Announcing their marriage and pregnancy, the two showed affection for each other. Park wrote that Choi has always been “a shoulder to cry on who embraced all the bad things I find about myself.” Shin also introduced Park as “a savior who taught me how to smile when I’m happy and how to cry out loud when I’m sad.”
