Go Ara will return to the big screen after a long time.

According to JTBC News, Go Ara was cast to star in Park Hoon Jung‘s new movie Sad Tropics.

Sad Tropics tells the story of an aspiring professional boxer who was born between a Korean father and a Filipino mother. When he comes to Korea to find his father, who abandoned him, he ends up getting mixed up with a bad crowd.

It is said that the actress already had met director Park in person and decided to join the production thanks to her trust in him. With this movie, Go Ara will present a whole new side of her that was never seen before, raising expectations. In particular, the last movie she appeared in was the 2016 movie Phantom Detective, making her big-screen comeback all the more welcoming.

However, Sad Tropics was originally known as the work that Kim Seon Ho will make his big-screen debut with. As the actor’s scandal broke out, the movie, which was supposed to start filming in November, is facing an unexpected yet awkward situation.

Though there is still a month left, it’s also true the crew had finalized major casting and was waiting for the filming to begin. They are now in a situation of having to re-cast the leading actor who needs to play a complex character.

As Kim Seon Ho issued his official apology today, the Sad Tropics crew plans to hold a final meeting regarding the issue later today. An official commented, “Everything is up to director Park Hoon Jung.”
