Lee Byung Hun Becomes the First Korean Actor to Receive Excellence in Asian Cinema Award at AFAA

The 15th Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) has selected actor Lee Byung Hun as the recipient of the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award.

The AFAA is an organization established in 2013 by three main Asian film festivals �” Busan, Hong Kong, and Tokyo �” to promote and develop Asian cinema. It highlights and develops the Asian film industry and culture through the annual Asian Film Awards.

And this year, Lee became the first Korean to win the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award. The actor will accept the award at the awards ceremony held in Busan on October 8th. The Excellence in Asian Cinema Award aims to highlight distinguished talents and affirm their achievements and contributions to the Asian film industry and culture.

With a stellar career spanning three decades, Lee has displayed his versatile talent in movies of all genres produced in many countries. Especially, his outstanding insight and interpretation of the work that delivers insight into his role’s spirit allow better immersion for the viewers.

His shining performance was followed by many awards.

Lee had swept the Best Actor Awards at ten different award ceremonies in 2015 with the film Inside Men. Moreover, his presence goes beyond Korea to the globe. Additionally, he was invited to the 2015 Academy Awards as a presenter for Best Foreign Film, becoming the first Korean actor to be a presenter at the Oscars.

In addition, he appeared in Hollywood blockbusters including G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra and The Magnificent Seven, inspiring many Asian talents. �His list of awards also includes two best actors from AFAA, one for Inside Men and one for The Man Standing Next.

“The Asian Film Awards Academy is proud to present Lee Byung Hun with the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award. His contribution to Asian and world cinema is widely recognized by the audience and the film industry,” said Lee Yong Kwan, Chairman of the 26th BIFF.

“His fearless attitude towards morphing into a completely different character in every film truly reflects Lee’s professional dedication,” he continued. “Throughout his distinguished career, Lee has honed his acting skills and worked on raising the standard of film art. His finesse and passion show that he is a great fit for the title of Excellence in Asian Cinema.”
