The 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (2021 MAMA) will be held in Korea.

On the 8th, CJ ENM confirmed that this year’s MAMA would be held at CJ ENM’s Contents Studio on December 11th.

MAMA was first held in 1999 under the name of “Video Music Awards”. It changed its name in 2010 to the current name and held the ceremony overseas for 10 years.

Now, MAMA has established itself as a music awards ceremony that attracts global attention. In particular, its new attempts became a hot topic. These attempts include simultaneously holding ceremonies in 3 Asian countries and becoming the first K-pop award ceremony to hold its event at a dome.

Kim Hyun Soo, CJ ENM’s director of music content, stated, “Due to the pandemic, the music industry and society as a whole are in a slump. I hope MAMA blows new vitality into the music industry by holding its ceremony in Korea, the birthplace of Kpop, while also giving hope and courage to the people.”

Meanwhile, MAMA will consider the COVID-19 situation and authorities’ guidelines for the remaining period before deciding whether to proceed with the face-to-face event.
