On July 19th, Kang Hanna held a video interview with Celuv Media to share her final thoughts on tvN’s My Roommate Is a Gumiho. And during the interview, the actress shared behind-the-scenes stories about her stylings. In My Roommate Is a Gumiho, Kang played gumiho-turned-human Yang Hye Sun, who boasts a fancy appearance and unexpected, sloppy charms. Yang Hye Sun’s ID says she’s 22 years old, but she lived as a gumiho for 747 years. And she became a human only five years ago.

Yang’s fashion is the most diverse among all the fashion that Kang has shown in her dramas. This was a way of expressing her character, “a woman with glamorous looks.” The actress shared, “I tried to dress according to the place, the people I met, and the atmosphere of the scene. I talked with the styling team a lot to complete the look that suits the scenes.”

She wore long evening gowns or dresses with bright patterns to express a character who’s sensitive to humans’ trends. She added, “I thought that there would be no clothes that Hye Sun had not tried on since she lived such a long life. She is a character who knows what suits her best and is not afraid to try new things. I had never worn cute items in my previous projects. But this time, I tried wearing various accessories like hair bands and ribbons. I thought it would be nice to make bold choices just like how Hye Sun has lived her life.”

Kang chose different wardrobes when she met her bickering friend Shin Woo Yeo (Jang Ki Yong) and her boyfriend Do Jae Jin (Kim Do Wan). ”When Yang Hye Sun meets Shin Woo Yeon, there is this strange tension. She became a human before him, so she doesn’t want to lose. So I used fancy clothes to express her cute little arrogance. But when she began to have a relationship with Do Jae Jin, I started focusing on small items. I put on heart-shaped rings or earrings. It may seem a bit childish, but I wanted to show Hye Sun’s fluttering hearts by wearing such clothes and accessories.”

Seeing Yang’s adorable campus looks was another fun. After she finally got into college, she completed her campus look with two-piece outfits of various colors. On top of that, she added a teen vibe with accessories like hair bands and knee socks. She doubled the fun of watching the drama with customized styling for each situation and character. “Hye Sun had this romance for college life. So I thought that she might have a scrapbook of what to wear. So I tried to put on matching top-bottom sets. In the scene where she goes outside of the school, she dresses casually. She puts on sweatpants and sneakers instead of high heels. I thought it’d be better not to dress so fancily, so I came up with the idea myself.”
