Kim Hye Soo is making her drama comeback with a new period series.
According to multiple industry insiders, Kim has confirmed her appearances in tvN’s Shuroop. “Shuroop” is an ancient term for “an umbrella.” The series follows the queen of Joseon, who must make her troublesome child into a dignified crown prince. And it deals with the gifted and talented education within the loyal princes of the Joseon Dynasty.
Kim Hye Soo plays Im Hwa Ryeong, the mother of a troublemaking prince and the wife of a great king. Rather grumpy and feisty than elegant and graceful, she is a picky and sensitive Her Highness. She used to be calm like a peaceful lake but now has a temper like a raging storm because people have constantly get on her nerves. She is the mother of the dynasty who doesn’t hesitate to curse or abandon her pride as needed. Her life is already full of troubles, but her kids are the only ones who keep her going.
Kim Hye Soo chose Shuroop as her next step after starring in Hyena last year. It will be her first historical drama in 20 years since Jang Hee Bin in 2002. Secret Door, Second 20s producer Kim Hyung Shik and screenwriter Park Ba Ra will helm the project. Plus, HowPictures will present the series.
