Lee Soo Man, CEO of SM Entertainment, revealed that he might start making his company artists’ worldviews into Hollywood movies.
On Tuesday, SM held “SM CONGRESS 2021” online and announced its visions and strategies.
In particular, the “Lee Soo Man Show” showed Lee Soo Man coming up with future plans with his artists. The first guest was aespa, whom Lee proudly introduced as “the team that achieved 100 million in the shortest period.” Then, mentioning the group’s unique worldview that involves avatars, Lee jokingly added, “I should also make ae-Soo Man.”
SMCU (SM Culture Universe), which started in earnest with aespa, was also mentioned. Lee explained, “When it comes to how to show SMCU, CAWMAN will be a genre that shows this in a new format.”
Each letter of CAWMAN, a new genre created by SM, has its meaning: Cartoon, Animation, Webtoon, Motion graphic, Avatar, and Novel. It’s a new mixed video genre that’ll specifically express SMCU.
Lee added, “If you look at aespa’s storytelling clips, you can see animations and motion graphics. What aespa is doing is starting a new culture. We’re making episodes using CAWMAN as a genre, and we’re even discussing making a movie in Hollywood about it.”
Hearing this, Kirana shared, “Only one episode has been released yet. Many people will wonder if aespa and ae-aespa will go on an adventure together in the wilderness and face Black Mamba in the future. We are preparing various contents to show the rest of this year’s season 1 story, so please look forward to it.”
