IZ*ONE’s Relaunch Funding Project has raised about 3.2 billion KRW (about $2,882,532) in just 40 days.
Earlier on April 21, IZ*ONE’s fans posted new funding titled “A Small Step for IZ*ONE Relaunch, Parallel Universe Project” on the crowdfunding platform Wadiz. This is a fundraising campaign by WIZ*ONEs for the reunion of IZ*ONE, which officially disbanded in late April.
The fund became the talk of the town by garnering 1 billion KRW (about $900,995) in just 30 minutes. And eventually, after about 40 days, it created an unprecedented event in K-pop history.
According to Wadiz, IZ*ONE’s Relaunch Funding Project is the reward-type cloud funding that raised the highest amount in Korea. Meanwhile, the latest record was 2.6 billion KRW (about $2,341,510), set by the “Full Moon O Sagashite OST Project” in Tumblbug.
IZ*ONE was formed through Mnet’s Produce 48 in 2018 and officially disbanded on April 29th. In response, The Parallel Universe Committee, formed by WIZ*ONEs, opened a fund to resume IZ*ONE’s activities.
An official from the committee told DongA, “This is how we feel. We worked tirelessly, thinking that we can work full-time if we show good performance for two years. But one month before the contract renewal, we got laid off. The belief that the (members’) contract extension will be possible if the group shows great results was the foundation of our fandom.”
However, officials from IZ*ONE’s members’ agencies shared, “Three billion KRW is enough to fund 1 to 3 albums. However, the possibility of this happening is nearly zero. At the time of the disbandment, all the agencies concluded after much discussion. Each agency has already made plans for its members, so altering those schedules is practically impossible.”
