BTS became the first Korean nominee for the 2021 BRIT Awards, UK’s prestigious music award.

On March 31st (local time), the BRIT Awards announced BTS’s nomination for the “International Group” category for their single Dynamite.

The BRIT Awards started in 1977 under the British record industry’s trade association’s auspices. And with this year’s ceremony, BTS became the first K-pop group to win a nomination for the award. The Brit Awards voting academy chooses the winners and nominees with over one-thousand members, which comprise record labels, publishers, managers, agents, and media.

This year, BTS will be competing against Fontaines D.C., Foo Fighters, Haim, and Run the Jewels. The past winners for the category include Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, and Green Day.

The 2021 BRIT Awards will be held at the O2 Arena in London on May 11th and broadcast live through ITV.
