Park So Dam‘s antidote with director Bong Joon Ho became a hot topic.
On Jan 25, an interview with actress Park So Dam was posted on Solar’s YouTube channel “solarsido”.
One of the questions Solar asked was, “I read that you were cast in Parasite because of Okja.” To which, Park replied, “I met director Bong once for Okja. Mija (in the movie) is in her mid-teens. But without knowing how old I was, he contacted me saying, ‘Let’s have her audition for the role.’ But it turned out I was too old. I was already 24 years old at the time.”
She continued, “So the director just asked me to have a tea with him before I left, and we just chatted for about an hour and a half. And after that, I just said goodbye and left. Then about 2 or 3 years later, he called me.”
Park also added, “Parasite is the first movie I was cast without an audition. At the time, I didn’t have an agency, and I was just spending time on my won when director Bong contacted me. I didn’t believe it. But he contacted me again and was like ‘Why won’t you believe me?'” giving a big laugh.
Meanwhile, Parasite marked a milestone in Korean film history, winning major awards at the world-renowned film festivals: the Palme d’Or at the 72nd Cannes International Film Festival, Best Foreign Language Film at the 77th Golden Globe Awards, and Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.
