Through the official fan community Lyson on the 15th, Irene revealed, “As a leader of Red Velvet, a singer, and a human Bae Joo Hyun, I will try not to disappoint everyone in the future.”

Irene previously received a severe reprimand last year as she was found to have abused her power as an artist towards a stylist who was formerly a fashion editor. As she carefully resumed her career with Red Velvet members, she once again posted an apology and promised to “be a more mature person.”

Irene wrote as she reflected on herself, “My whole life has been about standing in front of the public, since I was a trainee at the age of 19 to now, as Red Velvet’s Irene. I did not know that the way I communicate or express myself could be a problem, as I thought I was getting along with the people around me. I just thought, to each their own method of communication.”

With some time to reflect, she said, “I realized that thanks to my members, fans, and staff around me and their care, I was able to do well without issues. While I cannot rewind time, I’m trying very hard not to go back to the way I used to be.” She also promised, “I will become a more mature person as I realize what kind of weight words and actions hold.”

She also greeted her fans saying, “I hope that no one is criticized for what happened due to my flaws. It is late, but Happy New Year.”

The following is the full text of Irene’s apology:

Hello. This is Irene.

It’s been snowing a lot, and the weather has gotten colder. How is everyone doing? It’s late, but I’m here to say hello to everyone with a nervous heart.

First of all, I wanted to apologize for causing so much pain and concern to many people due to my flaws.

I started as a trainee in 2009 at the age of 19, and until now my whole life has been about standing in front of everyone as Irene of Red Velvet. I’ve always wanted to be the best in my work and considered that that was my most important mission within the entertainment industry until now.  I did not know that the way I communicate or express myself could be a problem, as I thought I was getting along with the people around me. I thought, to each their own method of communication.

The past incident has caused a lot of concern, and I was reproached by both the public and my acquaintances. This gave me time to silently reflect on myself. And I realized that thanks to my members, fans, and staff around me and their care, I was able to do well without issues.

Just as I can’t turn back time, I am trying hard not to go back to my old self. I realized the weight of words and actions, hence I will become a more mature person. As a leader of Red Velvet, a singer, and a human Bae Joo Hyun, I will try not to disappoint everyone in the future.

I hope that no one is further criticized for what happened due to my flaws. Though it is late, Happy New Year.
