Lee Do Hyun has once again received the spotlight for his appearance in Sweet Home.

After debuting in 2017 on Prison Playbook and making a good impression with his eccentric charms for 18 Again, he has once again caught the viewers’ attention with his ruthlessness in Netflix’s original, Sweet Home.

Lee Do Hyun talked about working with Netflix for the first time in a video-call interview with Sports Chosun on the 23rd.

“It’s an honor to be working for a Netflix original piece, and I’m grateful for it. I’ve heard that the show had ranked in the Top 10 in more than 70 countries. It is truly amazing. I’m very thankful for that, and all the staff who put their efforts.”

Lee Do Hyun drew attention as he played the role of Lee Eun Hyuk, a character with unyielding leadership.

“I considered a lot about how I could communicate his worries and thoughts to the viewers through my eyes in midst of a restricted state. I carried on as I contemplated how to send a message without facial expressions. Such directions in acting were introduced by the director, which I then analyzed and prepared for.”

People either hated or loved his leadership style which was at times inhumane.

“We wanted people to either hate or love it. It’s an amazing response. For me right now, I agree with his decisions because choices which can save lives are those which are realistic and extreme.”

Lee Do Hyun originally auditioned for the character of Cha Hyun Soo.

“I prepared for Hyun Soo’s role as I wanted to play as him. I think he’s everyone’s wannabe. I went to the audition thinking that he’s a character with contrasting sides, but the director gave me the script for Eun Hyuk. I didn’t realize that I got the role even after the audition had finished. Once I got the news, I was really glad. Then I reread the Webtoon with a focus on the character of Eun Hyuk.

While he cooperates with Go Min Si who appears as his adopted sister in the series, the viewers call them “a forbidden couple”, which Lee Do Hyun agrees to.

“Though unintentional, even the staff on set said it did look like we were a couple. Min Si and I tried our best to portray a brother and a sister in case we slipped in romantic elements. Unlike the original webtoon, she and I appear as siblings who did not share any blood, so we became affectionate.”

The romantic chemistry of the two will be available to be seen in May’s Youth (literal title).

“After I’ve told myself that I would focus on my acting when a speck of romance was noticeable in Sweet Home, we were confirmed to star in May’s Youth. We told each other that we would display a ‘real chemistry’ this time around. Now I’m in the process of reading scripts with fellow actors.”

Lee Do Hyun is an actor who is expected for his future changes.

“My priority for next year is to be good at acting. I’d like to return to screens with diverse images. I’d also like to have a go at a movie if I get the chance. The genres I want to give a try to are proper action, and film noir. I wish to attempt acting that displays my manly side.”
