BTS has been selected as the “ENTERTAINER of the year” by Time Magazine.

On Dec 10 (local time), Time Magazine released a list of the most influential figures in each field on its official website and named BTS as the “ENTERTAINER of the year.”

“BTS isn’t just the biggest K-pop act on the charts. They’ve become the biggest band in the world—full stop,” TIME introduced BTS. “Between releasing multiple albums, breaking every type of record and appearing in these extemporaneous livestreams in 2020, BTS ascended to the zenith of pop stardom. And they did it in a year defined by setbacks, one in which the world hit pause and everyone struggled to maintain their connections.”

They also emphasized the bond between BTS and their fandom ARMY, saying, “But BTS’s bonds to their international fan base, called ARMY, deepened amid the pandemic, a global racial reckoning and worldwide shutdowns.” They also added, “As opposed to top-down instruction from an icon to their followers, BTS has built a true community … The BTS fandom isn’t just about ensuring the band’s primacy—it’s also about extending the band’s message of positivity into the world.”

TIME also released an interview with BTS. In it, Jimin shared, “What gave us hope and joy this year were our fans and members. Our daily lives such as working on music, dancing and rehearsing together were the source of hope and happiness for us.” The rest of the members added, “We exist because there are people who listen to our music. We climbed up our way slowly from the bottom, so it feels like we grew together. So we know each other on a deeper level.”

BTS was named in the “TIME 100 Most Influential People” last year, but this is the first time that they have been chosen in the entertainment section of the “Person of the Year.”
