K-pop Two Biggest Names BTS and BLACKPINK Nominated for Time’s “Person of the Year”

BTS and BLACKPINK have been nominated for this year’s “Person of the Year” by Time magazine.

According to Time magazine’s website, BTS and BLACKPINK have been included in the list of nominees for “Person of the Year for 2020,” Time magazine then wrote, “Cast your vote for the person or group of people who had the greatest influence on the events of the year—for better or worse.”

This year, BTS has left new footmarks in K-pop history. Not only did they become the first K-pop artist to land at No. 1 on Billboard 100 with their first English song “Dynamite,” but they also became the first Korean artist to be nominated for the Grammys, one of the most prestigious awards in the United States.

This year alone, BLACKPINK has doubled and tripled their value with back-to-back hit songs. Both their pre-released songs “How You Like That” and “Ice Cream” garnered millions of views on YouTube, “Lovesick Girls,” the title track of their first full-length album THE ALBUM, also drew enthusiastic responses. Especially, the music video for “DDU-DU DDU-DU” has surpassed 1.4 billion views for the first time in the K-pop scene.

The rest of the nominees include names like Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, climate activist Great Thunberg, president-elect Joe Biden and the World Health Organization (WHO).
