MBC Fires the Reporter Who Attempted to Join “Doctor’s Room“

MBC has fired the reporter, who is suspected of joining the “Doctor’s Room,” which involved blackmail and the spread of sexually exploitative videos.

MBC held a personnel committee on June 15 and announced that they have decided to fire the reporter who is suspected of attempting to join “Doctor’s Room” for violating employment rules.

MBC reported the results of the first internal investigation. They stated that the reporter transferred 700,000 KRW (approx. 580 USD) to Cho Joo Bin, the operator of the “Doctor’s Room.” for the purpose of coverage but failed to get access. However, during the fact-finding committee, which included two outside experts, the fact that the reporter tried to join the chat room for reasons other than coverage was revealed.

MBC said, “Since we first recognized the case on April 23, we immediately excluded the reporter from work and formed the fact-finding committee regarding the case. After several investigations, the committee prepared the official report on June 4 and released the press release. Today’s personnel committee was also based on the report.”

“We will use this incident as an opportunity to review the ethical awareness that we should have as journalists. We will also faithfully engage in future police investigations as it is an ongoing issue,” they added.

Police are currently investigating the exact facts, including the circumstances in which the reported deposited the money to Cho Joo Bin.
