Kakao Page will unveil a webtoon of South Korea’s first space SF film Space Sweepers.
On May 25, Kakao Page announced that they are serializing Space Sweepers on Kakao Page and Daum Webtoon from the 27th.
Space Sweepers, set in 2092, follows the crew of a space junk collector ship called The Victory. Director Cho Sung Hee and actor Song Joong Ki have met once again after A Werewolf Boy, and Kim Tae Ri, Jin Sun Kyu, and Yoo Hae Jin will also star in the film. It is scheduled to be released this coming summer.
Kakao Page and movie investment-distributor Mary Christmas have signed a partnership to expand the intellectual property (IP) of Space Sweepers into various story formats.
The webtoon, which will be unveiled in a few days, is the first result of the “Space Sweepers IP Universe” project built up by the two companies.
An official from Kakao Page said, “‘Space Sweepers’ is the first work that we decided to invest from the production stage and launch IP project together. We will implement ‘IP Universe’ by expanding one IP into an infinite format, going beyond ‘video of webtoon’ or ‘webtoon of videos.'”
