‘The King: Eternal Monarch’ Is Being Laughed at for Its Excessive Product Placement

The excessive product placement (PPL), which was pointed out from the beginning of SBS’s The King: Eternal Monarch, has crossed the line.

In the drama market, product placement is an inevitable factor. In order to meet the production costs, product placement is certainly necessary. Even the viewers start the drama knowing that they will see various products being promoted. So nowadays, how they melt those products into the play is considered one of the abilities of the writers and directors.

However, The King: Eternal Monarch is going too far, making everyone frown. Especially the 8th episode, which recorded the lowest viewership of 6.1 percent (based on Nielsen Korea), was simply “The King: PPL World.”

From coffee, kimchi, multi-balm, beauty mask to fried chicken, the blatant product placements are only making the people laugh. In fact, the scene where Lee Min Ho praises the coffee was made into a short clip and is currently going around SNS as “the worst PPL in Korea.”

One of the best comments made after the latest episode was over was, “the drama felt like ‘The Truman Show.’”
