According to Deadline, director Jang Joon Hwan will direct on an English-language remake of the Korean cult movie Save the Green Planet!

Parasite producer CJ Entertainment will team up with Midsommar and Hereditary duo Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen to produce an English-language remake of Korean cult movie Save the Green Planet!

Deadline also reported that Will Tracy, writer on HBO’s Succession and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, “has been tapped to write the adapted screenplay.” Ari Aster, who had previously chosen Save the Green Planet!as his favorite Korean film, showed his excitement.

Directed by Jang Joon Hwan is well-known for his recent films 1987: When the Day Comes (2017) and Hwayi: A Monster Boy (2013), Save the Green Planet! is considered a “cursed masterpiece.” The movie only drew 70,000 viewers due to its absurd promotions, but is regarded as a representative film among Korean SF cult films. The main character Byeong Gu, who believes that the earth is in danger, kidnaps Kang Man Sik, the head of a vicious enterprise, thinking that he is an alien. Actors Shin Ha Kyun, Baek Yoo Sik, and Hwang Jung Min starred in the film.
