A Gang Who Hacked Actor Joo Jin Mo’s Phone Extorted about Five Hundred Thousand Dollars from 5 Celebs

The fact that a gang who threatened celebrities, including actor Joo Jin Mo, after hacking their phones extorted a total of 600 million KRW (approx. 492,100 USD) from a total of five celebrities was revealed, shocking the public.

According to Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, two people who made related threats to 8 celebrities, including actor Joo Jin Mo, were arrested and indicted on charges of violating the law on promoting the use of information and communication networks and protecting information.

They allegedly threatened eight celebrities from late last year to early this year, extorting a total of 610 million KRW (approx. 500,300 USD) from five of them, including female singers and K-POP stars. The other three celebrities reportedly did not send money. However, police refused to reveal the names of the celebs who were threatened.

Earlier, actor Joo Jin Mo’s phone was hacked and he received threats from the hackers that they will leak information, including the contents from his texts, from his private life. In response, the police launched an investigation and arrested the two hackers.

Meanwhile, police stated that the case has no relation to Cho Joo Bin, who for arrested in connection with the ‘Telegram Nth room‘ case. Attention was being focused as he reportedly mentioned “Joo Jin Mo’s case” as his doing during his investigation.
