Gwangjin, Writer of ‘Itaewon Class,’ Strongly Addresses the Usage of His Work Without Permission in Political Advertisements

Gwangjin, a writer of both webtoon and drama of Itaewon Class, expressed his repulsion against his work being used in Hong Joon Pyo‘s political advertisements without permission on April 7. Soon all related pictures were deleted.

Gwangjin, writer of Itaewon Class, made his official position on the 7th regarding the recent controversy over “Hong Sae Roy.”

Hong Joon Pyo, a former leader of the Liberty Korea Party and a current independent candidate, and his campaign started using “Hong Sae Roy,” derived from Itaewon Class‘s main character, Park Sae Roy, as part of his political advertisements on April 5, stirring up a controversy.

Later on April 7, Gwangjin shared a screenshot of him refusing the offered from Hong’s campaign on his Instagram and clearly stated that he doesn’t want his work to used in any political-related materials.

However, the fact that his works was used as part of political advertisements without permission only grew the controversy. To which, Hong Joon Pyo’s side answered by deleting all related posts and pictures without an official apology.
