‘Parasite’ Overtakes ‘The Passion of the Christ’ to Become the Biggest Non-English Film in the UK

Parasite broke the record of The Passion of the Christ in 16 years and became the most successful non-English film in the UK.

According to CJ Entertainment, Parasite earned 11,088,149 GBP (approximately 14,484,320 USD) in Britain Box Office as of March 6, surpassing the record of 11,078,861 GBP (approximately 14,472,186 USD) for The Passion of the Christ.

Hollywood Reporter also reported that director Bong has ended the “16-year reign of Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, which had held the top spot since 2004.” They also added that despite being released a few days later than other territories, Parasite hit the climax “with its Academy Award for best film just days later.” As of now, the movie currently stands at the “box office of $257 million, with more than $50 million coming from the US.”

Parasite continues to be a hit in Japan as well. CJ Entertainment commented that Parasite, which has already topped the all-time box office of Korean movies, as accumulated sales of 4.07 billion JPY (approximately 39,019,090 USD) as of March 10.
